Post 281 Recognized by Courier-Post
Post 281 was again recognized by the Camden
Courier-Post newspaper for its participation in the Newspapers
In Education program. By sponsoring the supply of one newspaper per
student in a selected classroom each week, the Post was accorded Gold
Sponsor status. The program involves the three middle schools in the
Gloucester Township public school system. It encourages reading, writing
and an interest in current events. The objective, to paraphrase the
program's promotion, is “…to give our children the most
precious gift of all — the desire to read!” Joining the
Post in the Gold Sponsorship category are entities such as USA Today,
UMDNJ, Equity Bank, Commerce Bank, Cherry Hill Mall and others.
Triton High School Gets a Questar!

What, you may ask, is a Questar? A Questar is a very sophisticated
(and expensive!) astronomical and terrestrial telescope. A Post member
provided one to us for presentation to a worthy recipient. Due to our
continuing relationship with Triton Regional High School, we made our
initial offer of the precision instrument to that school. Our offer
was scooped up quickly and enthusiastically. To quote a faculty member,
“Wow! A Questar. They are the Rolls Royce of telescopes.”
He knows his telescopes!
Despite
rain outside and pre-spring break chaos inside, Triton faculty and students
were delighted to accept the Questar telescope from Post member, Ken Bausinger. Glenn Smith, Chair of the Earth Sciences
Department, and Gary Pilling, Earth Science and Astronomy teacher, accepted
on behalf of the school administration. Jessica Tuckerman and Patricia
Cabrera, students of Mr. Pilling, were eager to get their hands on the
Questar and get it operational.
Our thanks to Nelson Dirmeyer, the Post benefactor!
