Triton Regional High School Marching Band
The relationship between Post 281 and the Triton Regional High School
Marching Band began in the spring of 1997. Post representatives met
with high school officials and discussed having the band represent Post
281 at The American Legion's annual Department of New Jersey Convention
Parade in Wildwood.
Although the parade takes place in June, and the marching band season
for that school year was over, director Robert Adams talked the proposal
over with band members. They decided to give the idea their best effort
— and it was quite a success, for both Post 281 and Triton's marching
band!
The band has won first place honors five times, and Post 281 thanks
band members for their participation after the parade with a swim and
barbecue dinner in Wildwood. The band returns the favor with an impromptu
poolside concert for Post 281 members and guests.
According
to Mr. Adams, “As a result of our relationship with The American
Legion, the band has earned thousands of dollars for scholarships, workshops
and special programs. It also offers an opportunity to teach the students
a thing or two about patriotism. It's a chance to honor our local veterans
who, in turn, have made presentations for Veterans Day and other memorial
programs here at the school. It's an interaction that rewards the whole
community.”
