The members of Post 281 hope you will find the answers in this section to most of your veteran-related questions on American Legion activities and benefits.

Two recent additions to this section are for the support of our active duty personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan and other hazardous duty areas. We ask for your support of both organizations:

1) The Military Support Group of South Jersey was established in September 2004. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month, from 7pm to 9pm, in the Chews United Methodist Church, 319 Black Horse Pike (Rt. 168), Glendora, NJ. Family members, friends, and members of the military and veterans' groups all are welcome to attend meetings. The next few meetings are scheduled for:
  • Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 7:00 pm
  • Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 7:00 pm
  • Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 7:00 pm
The Military Support Group provides deployment family support and friendship for area residents, and also shares information about veterans' events throughout NJ and the Philadelphia area. The Support Group collects toiletry items, snacks, food, entertainment items (DVD movies and music CDs), crossword puzzles, magazines, playing cards, etc., and send packages to our men and women currently serving overseas. Quilts and afgans are made or collected for our injured in military hospitals in Germany. Members of the group also write letters and cards to our deployed men and women.

2) The Soldiers’ Angels Foundation was created to make certain that no soldier remain unsupported by those here at home. You may “adopt” a soldier, write, send packages, or make a contribution toward sending necessities to soldiers who might not receive them otherwise. Please visit their site and help members or our armed forces who are stationed far from home and need someone to care.

Additional sections are provided with links to sites of interest to veterans, to those researching military topics, and to resources available to all community residents.

Please let our webmaster know if you encounter a link that is broken.
